Bank would not accept a notarized POA form on behalf of my disabled mother. NY state law requires third parties (specifically calling out banks!) to not refuse a lawful POA because it is not on their own form. I've been an account holder for over 3 years there, to boot.

The Moravia branch of the Groton bank was more than helpful and had an account opened for my mother the same afternoon. Shame my own bank couldn't follow the state's laws. See § 644 of New York's General Obligations Law regarding powers of attorney, ammended in Sept. 1st 2009.

Teller returned Canuck coinage, possibly in attempt to take advantage of the current exchange rate.
